When people think of goalkeepers, they tend to think we are kind of crazy. Like, why would this person choose to just stand there and have balls kicked at them for fun? And the answer is… I have no idea, the only thing I can really say is as long as your hands are up the ball won’t hit your face.

We typically have to keep our emotions in check and forget fast. Unfortunately for us goalies, our mistakes can be very costly. So if we slip up we can’t dwell on it otherwise we could make it worse. Which kind of sucks but you gotta do what you gotta do to win. We have to focused all the time just like the other players and organize our team so I can get a minimal amount of balls flying towards me, so dependent on the game I can be a drill sergent or the biggest cheerleader ever. Sometimes when I am going against a hard team, and I am getting a lot of shots on me, I will go into this zone. This zone where I am not really thinking but reacting and predicting what the team is going to do and making adjustments on the fly. Sometimes this involves talking and others I have no time.

All in all, it can be hard on the mind at times, I’ll have good and bad days just like everybody else but at the end of the day I am doing something I love and that’s what really counts!
