I always tease my teammates about our fun practice days that usually involve shooting drills. Everyone gets really excited about games about scoring and the practice is going to be easy and fun. But no one really thinks about the goalkeepers. Shooting drills are the equivalent to sprinting and running for us.
It’s a constant falling down and getting back up, core is flaring, legs are shaking, muscles are aching, and the result is us hobbling off the field. Having the ball constantly get passed us doesn’t give us the pat on the back type of feeling. But they always tell us to keep our heads up and that these drills were not designed for us keepers anyways. When you’re in the zone it can be fun, but it’s a grueling workout nonetheless.
