Big net = a lot of ground to cover and we also have to use our feet. This drill required two people on ball positioned just outside the six-yard box at the corners. Goalkeeper starts in the middle of your goal and advance forward to cut down the angle for the shot. Once the ball is caught, roll it back to the player and ask for a drop back and pass it to the person on the other side of the box. Then quickly run and get in position for another shot on the ground. You should be positioned at about a 45 degree angle away from your near post, be aware of your spacing. You do not want to be too close to your near post other wise they have a wide open net on your left side, but don’t be positioned to far in the middle either, otherwise you won’t be able to reach your near post. As a goalkeeper we must be aware of our surroundings in our box.
When passing we have to be sure to check our shoulders to be assured that there is an option to switch the point of play. You want to be calm and collected but you don’t want to take too much time otherwise it will be picked off by a forward that will likely end in a goal. Receive at an angle just in case you don’t receive it well and it won’t trickle into the goal, the touch sets up your pass, so after checking your shoulder, direct your touch to where you want to go and play with your opposite foot. This allows the motion to be smoother and you will get a better pass out of it.
